Thermosets
Thermosets
Entered/Authored by Chris Modified Saturday, 14 April 2007 14:35

Description: Thermosetting resins harden by chemical crosslinking reactions among the molecules that make up the plastic and become thermosets. They cannot be remelted and reformed because they decompose chemically upon reheating.

Facts: Thermosets are usually generated from polymers with low molecular weights (i.e. shorter polymers) because the thermosetting process results in crosslinking among the smaller molecules and theoretically the formation of one giant molecule.
